Headteacher's Welcome
Dear Parent / Carer,
Welcome to Grangetown Primary School! Croeso i Ysgol Gynradd Grangetown!
I am very happy to announce that, after two terms serving as Acting Headteacher, I have now been appointed as the substantive Headteacher of our wonderful school. It is a privilege to continue leading Grangetown Primary and to build on the strong foundations already in place which have been recognised in our recent successful Estyn Inspection.
For those who may not know me, I have been part of the Grangetown Primary community for 26 years. During this time, I have taught many of your children and worked closely with families and the wider community. I have also held key leadership roles, most recently serving as Deputy Headteacher for six years. I am deeply passionate about our school and feel incredibly honoured to lead such a diverse, inclusive and vibrant community forward.
Our core values of respect, kindness, fairness, being healthy and hard-working are central to our ethos and the qualities we aspire to instil in our children. To achieve our goals, I am delighted to introduce our dedicated team – please refer to the School Staff section for more information.
In leading our school, I am guided by the principles of passion, self-awareness, trust, empathy and authenticity. We prioritise placing children at the centre of their learning, helping them become confident, ethical, creative and independent lifelong learners. This is supported by our school motto: ‘Learning together for a brighter future’.
Our aim is to provide a rich and balanced curriculum to deepen your child’s knowledge, skills and experiences. This is underpinned by literacy, numeracy and digital skills, allowing children to develop and apply their learning in meaningful contexts.
You, as parents and carers, play a vital role in education, and I encourage regular communication. We offer a monthly newsletter, regular parent coffee catch-ups, open afternoons and formal parents’ evenings to keep you informed of your child’s progress. We are fortunate to have a committed Governing Body that supports our goals for continuous improvement.
As ever, if you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me via grangetownprm@cardiff.gov.uk — I am always happy to help.
Yours sincerely,
Nicki Herbert
